A man is in hospital with serious injuries following an assault in a Leicester street.

Officers were called to the area of Moores Road, near Melton Road, at around 12.50am today (Thurs) following a report that the man had been attacked.

The man, who is in his 30s, was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham where he currently remains. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A second man, who was also in his 30s, was also injured and was taken to the Leicester Royal Infirmary. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

Initial reports suggest the man who suffered serious injuries was assaulted by a group of men. The men are described as Asian and aged between 18 and 21-years-old. Following the incident, they are believed to have left the scene running along Moores Road.

A scene preservation remains in place in the area of Moores Road and Melton Road this morning as enquiries continue.

Sergeant Lindsey Booth said: “We are continuing to establish the full circumstances of the incident and remain in the area this morning carrying out enquiries.

“Two men have been injured in this incident, one suffering serious injuries, and we urge anyone with any information to contact police.

“Were you in the area during the early hours of this morning and did you see or hear anything which caused you concern? Do you have any CCTV or dashcam footage which could hold vital information? If you have any information, no matter how insignificant it may seem, then please get in touch.”
